Bamboo Bums Utility Diaper Review and TWO giveaways!

Posted on | June 14, 2010 | 229 Comments

One of the first things I noticed when I received our Bamboo Bums Utility Cloth Diaper was the amazing workmanship. Made by a work-at-home mom, these diapers are incredibly soft and squishy. They also come with two inserts and adorable packaging.

These diapers have a beautifully soft bamboo velour lining. The inserts are made of the same material. Since it comes with two adjustable, snap-in inserts, this is one of the few All-In-One/All-in-Two diapers that you can actually use for naps or nighttime. If you have a super heavy wetter, you may experience a little bit of wicking once the diaper inserts are completely saturated. I know for us, after 10 hours, the edges of the diaper had started to wick onto Sully’s cloths. It didn’t really bother me because the legs and belly have the soft velour around them, and if I have some wicking after ten hours, but Sully’s legs and belly are surrounded by super soft fabric, I consider it a pretty fair trade-off. We never had a problem with wicking during daytime when Sully was changed every 2-3 hours.

This diaper is also made to fit most babies from birth-40lbs. The front folds and can snap down to make it smaller for little babies.

Or you can fold it back up for larger babies.

I’m not sure that it will really fit a brand new baby, but after the baby’s cord falls off, you should be fine. I do think it will last until potty training because of the stretchiness of the PUL and lining. It’s stretchy enough to use as training pants that you can have your child pull up and down, as well.

There are many reasons to chose Bamboo. You’ll find it popping up in many diaper companies these days, and that’s because there are so many positives to the material.

  • Grown without pesticides or chemicals
  • One of the fastest growing resources
  • 100% biodegradable
  • Highly sustainable

Bamboo Bums uses the Viscose from Bamboo. Some of the benefits to Viscose include:

  • Anti-Microbial and Odor Resistant
  • Breathable
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Ultra absorbent
  • Moisture wicking
  • Incredibly soft
  • Thermal regulating

Now you can see why so many people are turning towards Bamboo for their diapers. I love the feel of this diaper more than anything. It has held up incredibly well despite two months of washing and heavy use. I do hang it to dry, but I toss it and the inserts in the dryer for a couple minutes when it’s almost completely dry. Otherwise they get a little crunchy.

(sorry for the not great pictures. I have a super roller on my hands, and every picture ends up blurring because of his super speed flips!)

Since I have reviewed this diaper, Bamboo Bums has made another improvement to their inserts by adding organic Bamboo Fleece! This fleece helps add some softness and absorbency to the wetzone areas of the insert. I am totally going to invest in one to try.

Bamboo Bums has also recently added a new retailer, Little Squigglers. So if you want to buy your own Utility diaper, head on over!

The price tag is a little hefty at $32.00. BUT, these are handmade by a work-at-home mama in the United States. They are SO worth it. They are beautifully made and will last you through several kids, I’m sure!

Now here’s the super fun part: TWO winners are going to be drawn from this giveaway! The GRAND Prize winner gets one Utility diaper from Bamboo Bums in the color of their choice! SECOND Prize winner gets a $25.00 gift card to Bamboo Bums to put towards whatever they want!

This giveaway will last until 6/20 at midnight. I will draw TWO winners from Random.org on 6/21. They will have 48 hours to respond, or new winners will be chosen!

Mandatory Entry: Go to Bamboo Bums and tell me what pretty color you like and would chose if you win!

I like the olive and the dark blue but oddly when I try to view each color the site doesn’t give me options (or it might be user error) because I’m not able to view the colors in larger images.

    Favorite things about cloth:
    1. It’s eco-friendly, which is a big deal to me.

    2. They’re way cuter on than disposables. (Especially my toddler because disposables stick out of his pants too much which I think looks messy- but cloth don’t look sloppy like that.

    3. Though the up-front cost is higher the overall cost is much much lower, especially if you use them for more than one baby!

Reason #3~ better for the environment. I’m a lil crunchy & feel crazy guilty if I don’t recycle any & everything I can. I think I’ll feel too guilty if we don’t at least try to cloth diaper at home (don’t think area daycares allow it).

My favorite thing about cloth diapers? That’s a hard questions! I’m totally new to this, so I’m speaking without much experience. I like the idea mostly because my son has really sensitive skin and I feel it would be good for him. He gets a lot of rashes and I thought cloth diapering might help with that. They’re good for baby, good for the environment, good for my wallet. And CUTE! Sorry that’s more than one thing.
