I’m gonna talk to all y’all mamas out there (like my Southern expression? I realize it’s a bit redundant, but it’s a thing I can’t shake).
Are you showing up to the gym in ill-fitting sweat pants and oversized shirts?
Are you wearing your husband’s 1995 Kappa Alpha Christmas Party t-shirt and a pair of umbros?
Are you secretly picking wedgies, dealing with thong burn, and running from the gym when those embarrassing sweat marks show up on your pants and make you look like you’ve had an accident?
I know I was. Up until a few weeks ago, I was wearing yoga pants from before Sullivan was born and t-shirts from my sorority days to the gym. I was uncomfortable, soaked to the skin every work out, and honestly? Feeling incredibly unattractive while I worked out. Not that I’m trying to find a date at the gym, but I also don’t want to feel like an ugly duckling. But I just felt like I couldn’t justify spending money on work out clothes. Why would I drop money on something that I’m just going to sweat in and get dirty? Why would I “waste” money on something that was only going to be seen at the gym where I barely knew anyone anyway? But to be honest, work out clothes are like any part of your wardrobe. You dress for success. You dress for the day you want. Show up anywhere looking and feeling sloppy, and it’s unlikely you’ll be able to live up to the best of your ability. So I bit the bullet and invested in a few key pieces of work out gear, and I was shocked by the result. Suddenly, instead of pulling up pants during a work out, I was wearing comfortable ones that stayed put the whole time. Instead of dodging eyes and rushing home after I worked out, I felt comfortable enough to strike up new conversations, meet some new mama friends, and I didn’t mind stopping by the store on my way home.
Work out clothes that fit can make you feel beautiful. Sexy even. It’s an amazing thing. And as a mama who spend plenty of time in spandex, I appreciate being able to wear it comfortable and happily.
I also got the awesome opportunity to review a pair of work out capris from Activewearusa.com. ActivewearUSA was founded by a mom with a passion for fitness. Avi Woolman has dedicated her company to not only providing high quality gear, but also to giving the greatest customer service and education on the correct fit and choice for each individuals’ need. They have an unbelievable selection. It is larger than any you’ll find online, for sure.
I got to try a pair of O’Neill 365 Soar leggings in a capri length and Nectar color. It features a 3XDRY fabric that never shows sweat marks and feels dry inside and outside. The seams are smooth and comfortable, and the fabric resists stains. So, even though it’s a brighter color, it’s not likely to pick up black marks from weights and mats.
I have to admit…I was a little skeptical of the color at first. I’m typically a black on bottom, bright on top, kinda girl.
I was afraid they would highlight flaws. And also? I felt like they made me look like an extra in a Sir Mix ‘a Lot video…but maybe that’s not such a bad thing?
But they fit so beautifully. They are a perfect length. They don’t bunch at my knees, and they stay put the entire work out, so I’m not pulling at them. Today, I put them through two miles on the treadmill, and a “Cindy” work out (twenty minute AMRAP of 5 pull-ups, 10 push-ups, and 15 air squats). They were comfortable the ENTIRE time, and despite the fact that I was absolutely dripping, they didn’t show a single bead of sweat.
These are slightly higher waisted and hit me just below the belly button. I MUCH prefer higher waisted work out pants to lower waisted ones. These pants never fell down, and they never slid. The fit was better than any pants I’ve ever worn. If I could do it again, I would probably request a small rather than a medium. I’ve got some major booty, but my waist is a size 4. I think a little of a smaller size would have made them even more comfortable.
So mamas, if you’re looking to hit the gym, take care of yourselves. Go ahead and invest in a few pieces you love. Invest in a few pieces that won’t be see-through when you squat. That won’t show your sweat marks. That will flatter your curves and let you focus on your work out rather than the fact that your pants keep sliding down your butt. Believe me, it’s so worth it.
And take a moment to check out ActivewearUSA. They’ve got such an amazing selection and customer service, you’re bound to find something that works for you. You can also find them on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.
I received the O’Neill 365 leggings free of charge in return for an honest review. Opinions are entirely my own.
